The Diocese of Albano organized a concert in honor of Pope Leo XIV, which will take place at the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo on Saturday, July 18, at 9:00 p.m. The event aims to express affection and communion with the Holy Father.
The concert will feature an array of performances, beginning with Niccolò Paganini’s La Polacca from the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 3 in E major, played by the internationally renowned violinist Marco Rogliano. Following this, pianist Rossana Tomassi Golkar will present a new reimagining of Vincenzo Bellini’s work, titled Norma: An Immense Love Story – Free Fantasy and Variations for Piano and Orchestra. This piece was specially composed for her by Oscar-winning composer Luis Bacalov.
Accompanying the soloists will be the 55-member orchestra I Musici di Parma, conducted by Pier Carlo Orizio, who has served as the artistic director of the International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo since 2006 and teaches orchestral conducting at the Luca Marenzio Conservatory in Brescia. The concert will also include a visual production to highlight dramatic moments from Bellini’s opera.
Bishop Vincenzo Viva of Albano expressed that "the renewed presence of the Holy Father in our diocesan territory has filled our local Church and its people with joy." He also extended gratitude to the benefactors and supporters who contributed to the concert, including businesses such as the Banca di Credito Cooperativo dei Castelli Romani e del Tuscolo. Appreciation was also directed towards the artists, the diocesan Office for Sacred Music, and the staff of the Pontifical Villas for their efforts in organizing the event.
