Pope Leo conducted separate audiences, welcoming António José Martins Seguro, President of Portugal, and Péter Magyar, the Prime Minister of Hungary. The discussions delved into various pressing topics, particularly focusing on global conflicts, multilateralism, and the challenges facing Christian minorities worldwide.
In his meeting with President Seguro, the Holy See Press Office reported satisfaction regarding the strong relations between the Holy See and Portugal. The talks emphasized matters of shared concern, including socio-economic developments and the promotion of the common good. Additionally, the dialogue addressed several regional and international issues, notably the impacts of global conflicts, challenges related to migration, the significance of multilateralism, and the urgent need to uphold international law, alongside supporting peace initiatives.
Following his engagement with President Seguro, Pope Leo met Prime Minister Magyar. Here, the Holy See Press Office noted satisfaction with the positive bilateral relations and the valuable role the Catholic Church plays in Hungary. The discussions revolved around the socio-economic landscape in Hungary and areas of mutual interest, especially regarding education and the safeguarding of vulnerable Christian communities globally. There was also an exchange of views on current international affairs, particularly concerning the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, underscoring a hope for enhanced commitment from the international community to promote peace.
