The Holy See Press Office announced that Pope Leo XIV will embark on an Apostolic Journey to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru from November 6 to November 17, 2026.
During this trip, the Pope is scheduled to visit Montevideo, Paysandú, and Florida from November 6 to November 8. His itinerary then includes Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Luján from November 8 to November 11, followed by stops in Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa from November 11 to November 17.
Uruguay, notable for having the lowest percentage of Catholics in Latin America at just 36%, presents a unique demographic challenge for the Pope's outreach. Argentina, the birthplace of Leo's predecessor, Pope Francis, represents a significant cultural link; however, the late pontiff did not have the opportunity to visit during his 12-year papacy. Meanwhile, Peru holds a special place in Pope Leo's heart, as he began his missionary work there in the 1980s, later serving as a bishop and even acquiring citizenship.
This journey to Latin America will cover ten cities over eleven days, marking Pope Leo XIV's sixth international trip. Further details regarding the trip's schedule will be released in due course.
