Pope Leo XIV received the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland, His Excellency Mr Micheál Martin, in audience at the Vatican. The meeting marked a continuation of the cordial relationship between the Holy See and Ireland.
Following their audience, Mr Martin met with His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State. Also present was Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations. During the discussions, both parties expressed satisfaction with the existing relations between the two entities.
The conversation addressed various topics, focusing on Ireland's socio-economic situation and the relationship between the local Church and State, with an emphasis on education issues. Moreover, they touched upon several regional and international policy matters, including the state of affairs in Europe and the Middle East, as well as the prospects for peace in these regions.
