On Thursday, August 6, Pope Leo XIV will embark on a pastoral visit to Assisi, Italy, coinciding with the Feast of the Transfiguration. During this visit, he will gather with hundreds of young people participating in the "Go! Franciscan Youth Meeting 2026," which is taking place in Assisi from August 3 to 6.
Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to leave the Vatican at 8:00 AM by helicopter, arriving in Assisi at 8:30 AM. He will be greeted by Archbishop Felice Accrocca and local civil authorities upon his arrival. Following the welcome, the Pope will proceed to the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, where he will meet with the Ministers General of the Franciscan Orders at 8:45 AM. He will also engage with young attendees, answering three of their questions.
After addressing the young people, the Pope is set to greet representatives from the Franciscan Order, including members of the national committee responsible for organizing events honoring the 800th anniversary of St. Francis’ death. This meeting will occur in the convent cloister at 9:15 AM.
At 10:30 AM, Pope Leo XIV will celebrate Mass in the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. At the conclusion of the Mass, a young participant will express gratitude for the Pope's presence. The Pope’s helicopter is expected to depart from Assisi at approximately 12:15 PM, returning to the Vatican by 12:45 PM.
The "Go! Franciscan Youth Meeting" is designed for young people aged 18 to 33, encompassing both believers and non-believers from across Europe. The event will feature workshops, prayers, and a music competition, highlighting St. Francis’ enduring influence on youth today. Throughout 2026, various activities and gatherings have been arranged in Assisi to commemorate the 800th anniversary of St. Francis’ passing, emphasizing the spiritual and cultural richness of his legacy.
In addition to the Assisi visit, the Pope has other engagements planned for August. He will celebrate Mass on Saturday, August 15, at 10:00 AM for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Pontifical Parish of St. Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo. Following this, on Saturday, August 22, he will travel to Rimini to participate in the 47th edition of the Meeting for Friendship among Peoples, where he will celebrate Mass at the city’s port at 6:30 PM. Finally, on Saturday, August 29, Pope Leo XIV will conduct a Mass and lead a procession at the Church of Our Lady of the Lake in Castel Gandolfo at 6:00 PM.
