Pope Leo XIV in Barcelona — 8–9 June 2026
Pope Leo XIV arrived in Barcelona on Monday 8 June 2026, continuing his apostolic journey to Spain after three days in Madrid.
The highlight of 8 June was a solemn ceremony at the Sagrada Família at noon — a historic visit to Antoni Gaudí's iconic basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site still under construction after more than 140 years. In the afternoon the Pope met civic and religious leaders and took part in an interreligious dialogue gathering.
9 June: Open-Air Papal Mass
On Tuesday 9 June, Pope Leo XIV celebrated an open-air Papal Mass in Barcelona, then visited communities in need before departing for Tenerife at 17:00.
