Pope Leo XIV Acknowledges Catholic Charities Leadership

Pope Leo XIV met with the leadership of Catholic Charities USA at the Vatican, where he acknowledged their ongoing mission to serve poor and vulnerable populations. The gathering underscored the importance of charitable efforts within the Catholic Church and emphasized the need for continued support to address pressing social issues.

Kerry Alys Robinson, president of Catholic Charities USA, described the encounter as "deeply moving," adding that the Pope’s words left the delegation “confirmed in our commitment to serve poor and vulnerable people of all backgrounds, of all faiths.” She noted that the Pope expressed appreciation “that the work of Catholic Charities across all 50 states, the five U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia is a manifestation of Christ’s love for humankind and serves as a beacon of hope.”

Robinson also highlighted that the challenges faced by those engaged in charitable ministry are compounded by poverty. “The cuts we experienced across the ecosystem were largely in the space of refugee resettlement,” she said, estimating that approximately 450 positions were lost out of 45,000 full-time Catholic Charities employees nationwide. Despite these setbacks, Robinson emphasized that the organization remains committed to its mission.

The Pope's recognition of their work is pivotal, as it aligns with his broader commitment to social justice and the Church's teaching on supporting the marginalized. Pope Leo XIV’s statements during the meeting echoed the principles of charity and compassion, reinforcing the Church's role in addressing inequality and providing assistance to the most vulnerable in society.

As Catholic Charities continues to make a significant impact across communities, the meeting with Pope Leo XIV serves as a reminder of the essential partnership between the Vatican and charitable organizations in creating support systems for those in need.
