On Friday afternoon, doctors provided a positive update on Pope Leo XIV's health during his hospitalization. The Holy See Press Office issued a statement confirming that new blood tests and a chest X-ray demonstrated "the steady improvement in his overall condition." This marked the fourth day of the Pope’s stay at the Gemelli Hospital.
Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora commented on the ongoing recovery, stating that respiratory physiotherapy sessions had continued, enabling the Pope to carry out normal daily activities independently. The medical staff highlighted the encouraging progress of his postoperative recovery, which reflected positively on his health status.
In a notable event, Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass at noon in a room specially prepared on the 10th floor of the hospital. Along with members of the Gemelli Hospital medical and nursing staff, members of the Vatican City State Gendarmerie Corps also attended the service. During his homily, the Pope expressed gratitude to all hospital staff—doctors, nurses, and orderlies—for their dedicated care for patients and specifically recognized their support for him during his recovery.
Additionally, the Holy See Press Office announced that the traditional Sunday noon Angelus prayer is set to take place, despite his current hospitalization. This continuity reflects both the Pope’s commitment to his pastoral duties and the progress he has made during his stay.
