Pope Leo XIV held an audience with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace. This meeting occurred as Rubio visited Italy, having arrived on Thursday.
According to a communique issued by the Holy See Press Office, the discussions during this meeting were described as cordial. Both parties renewed their commitment to strengthening the relationship between the Holy See and the United States of America.
The topics of conversation included an exchange of perspectives on the regional and international landscape, with particular emphasis on areas experiencing conflict, political unrest, and challenging humanitarian circumstances. The dialogue underscored the shared necessity to work tirelessly for peace in the face of such challenges.
As a gesture of goodwill, Secretary Rubio presented Pope Leo XIV with a crystal football.
