Mission

whereisthepope.com provides real-time, multilingual tracking of Pope Leo XIV's location, apostolic journeys, and public schedule. Our goal is to make Vatican information accessible to a global audience across 12 languages, with accuracy and speed.

Primary Sources

  • Vatican News (vatican.va) — official calendar, press releases, and event announcements from the Holy See Press Office.
  • Holy See Press Office — confirmed itineraries, official communiqués, and post-event summaries.
  • Apostolic journey documentation — official programmes published by the Vatican before and during papal trips.

News Coverage

News articles are sourced from established Catholic and international wire services via RSS feeds and are reviewed by our editorial team. We publish only content from verifiable outlets. Aggregated articles include attribution and link to the original source.

All news content is reviewed by Alex Ferrara, Editor, before publication. Factual errors are corrected promptly; corrections are noted in the article where material.

Location Data

The Pope's current location is updated automatically every 30 minutes by cross-referencing the Vatican calendar feed with our database of apostolic journey itineraries. The location displayed reflects the most recently confirmed city from official Vatican sources. During periods with no active journey, the location defaults to Vatican City.

Translations

We publish in 12 languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, Filipino, Polish, German, Arabic, Lingála, Swahili, and Latin. Translations are produced using a combination of official Vatican translations (where available) and AI-assisted translation reviewed for liturgical and cultural accuracy.

For languages not covered by official Vatican translations (Filipino, Lingála, Swahili, Latin), we use OpenAI GPT-4o with Catholic-specific context prompts and manual review.

Affiliate Relationships

Some pilgrimage pages contain affiliate links to tour operators. These links are clearly marked and do not influence our editorial content. We only feature operators with established track records for Catholic pilgrimages. Affiliate relationships are disclosed in accordance with applicable regulations.

Independence

whereisthepope.com is an independent publication by Lacunae Media and is not affiliated with the Vatican, the Holy See, or any official Catholic organisation. We have no editorial or financial relationship with any diocese, religious order, or Church body.

Corrections & Contact

To report an error or inaccuracy, email [email protected]. We aim to respond within two business days. Verified factual corrections are applied immediately.
