Pope Leo XIV received Mr. José María Balcázar Zelada, the President of the Republic of Peru, on Thursday in the Vatican. This significant meeting underscored the ongoing diplomatic relationship between the Holy See and Peru.
After their meeting, President Zelada had discussions with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican's Secretary of State, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, at the Secretariat of State.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the conversations at the Secretariat of State were described as "cordial." Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive relations shared between the Holy See and Peru and conveyed a desire to strengthen them further.
The discussions addressed various topics of common interest, including socio-economic trends, the issue of illegal mining activities, the promotion of the common good, and the necessity for dialogue and social cohesion. Additionally, the dialogue included an examination of the regional and international socio-political situations, with a focus on migration, organized crime, and the impacts of global conflicts.
