Pope Leo XIV sent warm greetings to participants of the Conference on Health organized by Caritas Internationalis, which took place in Castel Gandolfo from June 23 to 25. In his message, conveyed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, the Pope expressed his spiritual closeness to everyone attending the event dedicated to “A holistic approach to health in the Caritas Confederation.”
In his remarks, the Pope prayed that the conference would inspire renewed cooperation and solidarity in the field of healthcare and encouraged participants to enhance healthcare services for the sick, emphasizing that such efforts should be grounded in Gospel values. He highlighted the significance of Jesus, often depicted in Scripture as the Divine Physician, who brings healing to individuals suffering from various afflictions, including mental, physical, and spiritual ailments.
Pope Leo XIV referenced his encyclical Magnifica humanitas, in which he affirms the dignity inherent in every human being, a dignity that transcends individual circumstances. He stated that by restoring health, Jesus not only reveals the intrinsic worth of each individual but also guides humanity toward eternal salvation in God.
As part of his encouragement, the Pope urged participants to actively contribute to the Church's mission of proclaiming the Kingdom of God through their work among the sick. “Salvation is not an abstract idea,” he stated, “but begins with the concrete action of healing the wounds of those who suffer.” He concluded his message with aspirations that the endeavors of Caritas and its affiliates would focus on delivering God’s compassion and kindness to those in the greatest need.
