Pope Leo XIV received Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Haiti, in the Vatican on Saturday morning. The private audience marked a significant engagement between the Vatican and Haitian leadership.
Following the meeting with the Pope, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé engaged in discussions with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, at the Secretariat of State.
A statement from the Holy See Press Office indicated that the conversations were cordial and recognized the longstanding positive relations between the Holy See and Haiti. Discussions reportedly centered on the substantial contributions that the Catholic Church provides to Haiti, particularly during its current challenges.
The statement also highlighted the socio-political issues in Haiti, noting the existing humanitarian, migration, and security challenges. Additionally, it emphasized the vital role of the international community in supporting Haiti to navigate these difficulties.
